Part 3: Methodology
In order to “test” the suggested strategy to answer the research question, the method used would be in a public high school, specifically a freshman English classroom. The target population is a classroom with 31 students, made up of about 50% female and 50% male students from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. The ethnic make-up of the class in 40% Chamoru, 15% Pilipino, 15% FSA, 10% Asian (Korean, Japanese, Chinese), and the remaining 20% listed unknown or mixed/multiple ethnicities. Students in a 9th grade class are between the age of 15 and 16 years.
The list of data collection methods to be used includes the following:
My hypothesis is that a well-written classroom management plan will help to prevent problem behaviors, manage problem behaviors as they arise and authentically praise and intrinsically motivate student to continue positive behaviors as they occur in the classroom.
The researched strategies suggest that having a plan is the best way to create a positive and productive classroom, for both students and teachers alike. Edivation (pd360.com) recommends a 5-part plan that revolves around the common goal of learning and efficacy in the function of a classroom. This 5-part plan creates accountability in students. They become responsible for their own actions and learning objectives (Linsin, 2013)
The list of data collection methods to be used includes the following:
- Pre and post tests on student perceptions
- Pre and post test of a unit, including formative assessment results based on CCSS.
- Focus groups
- Teacher observations
- Student grades
